Michigan Auto Worker Killed in Workplace Accident at Stellantis Facility

A longtime Michigan auto worker was killed in a workplace accident over the weekend at a Stellantis parts facility in Macomb County.

UAW Mourns Loss of Veteran Union Member

The incident happened Saturday morning at the company's Mopar Division Center Line National Parts facility. According to the United Auto Workers, the employee has been identified as James Brasher, a laborer and 30-year union member who was working on a renovation project when the fatal accident occurred.

Authorities have not released details about exactly what happened, and the cause of the accident remains under investigation according to WXYZ.

UAW Calls for Answers Following Fatal Accident

Following the tragedy, UAW President Shawn Fain and Vice President Rich Boyer issued a statement expressing condolences to Brasher's family, friends, and fellow members of UAW Local 1248.

The union said no worker should ever leave for work without expecting to return home safely. UAW leaders also pledged to investigate the incident and demand answers from Stellantis to determine how the accident occurred and what steps can be taken to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The union says its focus is ensuring every UAW member and every American worker has a safe workplace. Stellantis also released a statement offering condolences to the employee's family, friends, and coworkers.

Stellantis Says Employee Safety Remains Top Priority

The automaker said it is cooperating with authorities as they investigate the fatal accident and reiterated that employee safety remains its highest priority.

According to the company, the building where the incident occurred previously housed Mopar administrative offices but is currently unoccupied after those operations were relocated to Auburn Hills. Renovation work was underway at the time of the accident.

Investigators have not yet released additional information about what led to the fatal workplace incident.
