What Is the Michigan Dogman? Sightings Have a Strange Pattern Leading to 2027

Now, I love sci-fi, and I do believe that we’re not alone in the universe. But I have a much harder time going along with tales about Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster. Well, there’s another creature out there that people claim to have seen for well over 100 years right here in the Great Lakes State.

The Michigan Dogman Legend Goes Back More Than 100 Years

The Michigan Dogman was reportedly first encountered way back in 1887, described as half man and half dog. Prior to that, there are stories of sightings by the Odawa people that go back hundreds of years. Standing approximately seven feet tall, the fanged beast walked on two legs, and many claims say that it also had a howl that sounds like a human screaming.

According to Mystery Town USA, the creature has amber eyes, the head of a dog, and a man’s torso walking on two legs. Some people say the Dogman’s eyes glow.

Where and When Have Michigan Dogman Sightings Been Reported?

Now, if you think you can head out to the woods to search for the Dogman here in Mid-Michigan, think again. Pretty much all of the sightings have been deep in the forests of the Upper Peninsula and the northwest quadrant of the Lower Peninsula.

But it’s not just the location of the sightings. It seems a pattern has emerged. First reported in 1887, there have been reports tied to years ending in 7, including an attack in Paris, Michigan, in 1937. With all of the reports of the Michigan Dogman during years that end in 7, could 2027 provide more sightings of this elusive beast?

A New Documentary Explores the Michigan Dogman

A documentary called Dawn of the Dogman was released on Prime Video in December 2025, so interest is definitely there. IMDb states that the documentary explores the Michigan Dogman legend, reported encounters, historical accounts, and modern witnesses.
