Michigan Now Has an Age Limit for Marriage

In 2022, Human Rights Watch gave Michigan a failing grade when it came to protecting children. At that time, teens who were 16 or 17 years old could get married with the consent of a parent. Anyone under 16 was allowed to marry with the signature of a judge and parental permission.

That changed in 2023 when new legislation was enacted making 18 the legal age for marriage in Michigan.

What is the Waiting Time Between Marriages in Michigan?

According to Michigan law, there is no specific waiting period before getting remarried. However, all previous marriages must be fully dissolved first.
