Michigan School Warns Parents About Dangerous New Trend Targeting Kids
Being a parent in today’s world can be terrifying. It feels like kids today have a lot more to deal with than when we were growing up. We never had to deal with lockdown drills at school or the vaping epidemic. Now, local school officials are warning about Kratom, also known as 7-OH.
Michigan Schools Raising Concerns About Kratom
Lake Fenton High School sent out a message to parents today warning that Kratom is sold in several different forms and can appear to be gummies or beverages like energy drinks. Local health officials are warning that these Kratom products are usually flavored and marketed to kids.

This comes one week after Bentley school officials warned parents about problems with students vaping.

Not just nicotine, but marijuana vapes are also showing up at school disguised as USB devices.
What Lake Fenton Officials Told Parents
Here is the message that was sent out to parents from Lake Fenton Community Schools:
LFHS Parents,
Mr. Webster and I are sharing the attached informational flyer to help keep families informed about a substance called KRATOM or 7-OH (7-hydroxymitragynine), which is being marketed and sold in forms that can closely resemble energy drinks, wellness beverages, or gummies.
At this time, we have not had any known issues involving this substance at our high school. Our goal in sharing this information is simply to help parents stay aware of current trends and products that students may encounter in stores, gas stations, or online.
One concern highlighted by local health agencies is that many of these products can be difficult to distinguish from regular energy drinks, flavored beverages, gummies, or other products marketed toward teens. Because of this, we felt it was important to proactively share information with families.
As always, we encourage parents to have conversations with their children about substance safety and the importance of being cautious with unfamiliar products.
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping keep our students safe and informed.
Sincerely,
Vincent Cicalo
