J. Cole “Middle Child” Video: Watch
J. Cole keeps up his momentum by dropping off a new video for "Middle Child."
On Monday (Feb. 25), Cole dropped the visual, which features a couple of cameos from his Dreamville crew, an all-female band and more. Instead of focusing on Grammy trophies, Cole uses the King Mez-directed video to embrace the reward that matters: the heads of his rap rivals.
The video comes after Cole's first single in years helped the North Carolina native achieve a new accolade in his career. The T-Minus-produced track recently became the highest-charting song of Cole's career after it ascended from No. 17 to No. 2 on the Billboard Streaming Song chart with 54.4 million streams. "Middle Child" shot up from No. 12 to No. 5 on the Digital Song Sales chart, and also garnered 8.4 million in radio reach.
Cole's "Middle Child" video also comes ahead of Dreamville's Return of the Dreamers 3 compilation album and his upcoming studio album coming later this year. Cole recently previewed new material that may appear on one of the aforementioned albums during All-Star weekend in North Carolina.
"Nothing new under the Sun/Nobody fucking with son/I got a couple of sons, a couple of guns/A couple of lil' niggas that bust up the party and fuck up the fun," Cole raps in the song fans have dubbed "Dog Catcher". "She diggin’ me and I'm cuffin' her friend/She kickin’ you out while we fucking for fun/I got her sucking her thumb, that my lil' baby/She all me daddy like grandma, baby/And put Sunday dinner my hand on the gravy."
