Jeffery A Wilson Scholarship Honors Our Family and Supports Flint Youth
Applications are now being accepted for any Flint students for the Jeffery A. Wilson Scholarship.
You only meet one Jeff Wilson in your lifetime, and I was lucky enough to spend a lot of time with Jeff. We worked together at Townsquare Media for more than a decade. Jeff was known by many names, but most people identified him as Jeff with two F's. I consider myself lucky to have spent so much time with Jeff. He made an impression on everyone he met, and his spirit lives on through his scholarship fund.
One of Jeff's best friends, Randall Wilburn, and Jeff's sister Kim had the vision to help Jeff's legacy live on. Helping kids in Flint was one of the things that Jeff was the most passionate about. Jeff did everything from host neighborhood BBQ's, to offering rides to kids that needed them. Jeff also put in countless hours in the Flint school system as a substitute teacher. He really cared about the people around him and it showed in everything he did.
The scholarship is aimed at helping kids extend their education despite the roadblocks they face every day. The scholarship application requires the following.
- Must be a high school senior or college undergrad
- Must live in Flint
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 at the time of application
- High school transcripts
- One letter of recommendation
The application process is simple, and very timely. Applicants are asked to write a brief essay on how the pandemic has affected their college process, and display a need for the scholarship.
