Here's a kiss you don't want. The treacherous bug known as the 'kissing bug' has made its way to our neighbors in Indiana and Ohio, and experts say it's headed for Michigan.

The bug has been confirmed to be in 30 states now and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that Chagas disease is spread by the triatomine bugs that typically bite people on the face.

The CDC wars that if Chagas disease is left untreated it can last a lifetime and can be life-threatening. Symptoms can include fever, fatigue, aches, headache, rash and swelling at the site of transmission. Reports indicate that severe cases can lead to stroke or heart failure.

Here's how you can safeguard your family from the deadly bugs:

• Seal cracks around the house;
• Don't install yard lights near the house, because they can attract bugs;
• Allow pets to sleep indoors at night;
• Clear brush or rock piles near the house;
• Use screens on windows;
• Keep the home and outdoor pet areas clean.
