A new bill is on its way to the Senate floor allowing for Michigan bars to stay open till 4 a.m. instead of 2 a.m.

The idea is that the extra 2 hours will help compensate for the economic damage caused by the pandemic.

The bill’s sponsor, Republican Representative Ryan Berman argued changing the law would provide local governments with another tool to help offset sales losses during the pandemic.

The worry about public safety also makes sense. The later you get into the night the drunker people will get. That's just common sense. But here's a serious question. Do people really go straight home after the bar closes at 2 a.m.? Because I don't, and I don't know any of my friends that do. Most people just re-group and figure out what else they can get into.

I think the extension of the late hours will actually increase public safety. If they're still inside, then they can't get in trouble outside, simple yet effective...
