Everybody is raving about the new chicken sandwich at Popeye's. It appears that the only thing harder than getting into the restaurant is actually getting one of the sandwiches.

Over the last few weeks, the internet has been divided by the most important issue of our time -- Gun Control   Wildfires in the Amazon   Health CarClimate Change    Can You Stop a Hurricane with a Bomb   Who has the best chicken sandwich?

In just two weeks, Popeye's new chicken sandwich has gone from buzz to full-on frenzy. Some are saying they have taken the crown from Chick-Fil-A, and that has caused an online debate that is driving people to Popeye's in droves. So much so that they are having trouble keeping up with the demand for the new sandwich, which is tough for those of us in the Flint area, as we only have two locations.

A co-worker of mine attempted to try one last week and arrived right as they were supposed to open, only to learn that they were waiting until the manager returned with more of the chicken sandwiches to open the restaurant. He didn't wait around for that.

Interested to see what all the hype is about, I went to the Flint Township location earlier to get one and report back to you fine people on how it was. The first obstacle was this:

It's tough to see because of my mirror, but there were two more cars behind that black car. The line went all the way into the street. I had to wait 8 minutes in the left turn lane before I could even pull in. Once I got in the driveway, it took another 4 to get close enough to see the "Sorry, we're out of sandwiches" sign on the door.

I decided to just continue waiting and get the $5 shrimp box, but sadly no one left the line upon learning that they were out of chicken sandwiches. They stayed and just took a really long time to order instead.

I ended up leaving because I was hungry and it was taking forever even though they were out of the thing everyone was coming there to eat. I went up the street to Sonic and had their chicken sandwich instead. It was fine. I'll get one of Popeye's chicken sandwiches someday, but today was not that day.

I guess Popeye's marketing, whether intentional or not, is working. People are coming for a sandwich and staying even when they don't have it. That's pretty impressive from a business perspective, but not very enjoyable when you're stuck in the shared left-turn lane on Miller Road for a third of your lunch break.
