The 55th Annual Detroit Fireworks started off with a bang, but the mood shifted suddenly when thousands of people stampeded through the streets.

Only a few minuted into the show something sparked the crowd into a frenzy and people were stampeding through the barriers.  Police couldn't confirm what caused the stampede, but rumors were that gunshots were fired.

The video caught by an 11 year old girl and her family above shows how scary the scene actually was.  Children can be heard crying as the masses run, but have no idea why.

Attendance was estimated at 800,000 for the show, but less than half of that number stayed to finish the fireworks.  It will be interesting to see if next years attendance is down because of the stampedes this year.
