We don’t yet know if future Star Wars movies will deepen our understanding of the Force any, but Star Wars Rebels Season 3 definitely aims to make things … well, bigger. A new Season 3 clip introduces the mysteriously neutral Force entity “The Bendu,” voiced by none other than Doctor Who star Tom Baker.

USA Today brought a first look at the new clip, which sees a still-blind Kanan confronting the strange (and wise) creature, who purports not to see any divide between the light side and the dark. Here’s how Baker himself puts it:

The Bendu is described as a “life force,” which is something we haven’t really seen before in Star Wars. He’s not the dark side or the light — he’s something greater. I’m quite flattered that (Rebels executive producer) Dave Filoni fancied me as a “life force” at the age of 82.

Elsewhere of Star Wars Rebels, new episodes will take a little trip through time to age up Ezra into a young Jedi teetering on the edge of light and dark. And while Darth Vader may not be so visible this time out (ditto for Ahsoka), Season 3 will more than make up for it with the introduction of Lars Mikkelsen (Rogue One star Mads’ brother) as Grand Admiral Thrawn, who returns to Star Wars canon after Disney’s acquisition of the franchise.

Season 3 will premiere a full hour on September 24, so stay tuned for the latest on Star Wars Rebels in the meantime.
