TJ Maxx is saying goodbye to their Center Rd. Flint store in favor of a new location in Fenton.

The move was announced Monday, and it's adding to a huge retail black hole on the corner of Center & Lapeer Rds. The new location will be located at Silver Lake Village in Fenton, with an August 15th Grand Opening. The first 500 customers at the Fenton grand opening will receive complimentary reusable shopping bags.

The plaza that TJ Maxx is leaving is very familiar to me. I take both of my kids to Bullpen Sports at least a couple of times a month. Bullpen shares a wall with the TJ Maxx store, but it's one of the last thriving businesses there.

The Farmer Jack and Target stores have stood empty for a long time now with no real talks about new tenants.

The crazy part about this business black hole is that the location is actually really good! Right off of 69, and at a busy intersection (Center & Lapeer) it should see a lot of traffic. When you factor in all of the traffic going in and out of the Dort Federal Event Center, it only makes sense that businesses would be lining up to get in there.

So what's the problem?

I have no inside knowledge of that plaza, so I don't have any real answers, but this has always bothered me.
