We Finally Experienced The Freak Shake In Durand and it was Awesome
You've probably never thought about driving to Durand for ice cream, but the Freak Shake at Stomping Grounds coffee is worth it.
I've been noticing pictures of these monster shakes showing up on my social media feeds for a while now, and knew it was only a matter of time before my kids saw one. We finally decided to make the detour through Durand on our way home this weekend to check it out for ourselves.
I'll give you two pieces of advice, before you go. Don't eat before going, and give yourself time to enjoy it. Stomping Grounds is a true hometown coffee shop, and the owners have put in a lot of effort to make it feel homey.
There are plenty of things to do while you wait for your shake.
The board games, chalkboard wall and sidewalk chalk are also complimented by some small nick knacks you can check out.
The Freak Shakes do take a while to prepare considering the amount of things that are involved. The looks on our kids faces were definitely worth the wait though as these beauties were set in front of us.
For anyone that might be worried about the calorie or sugar or anything like that, please take your concerns somewhere else. These are obviously not an everyday item on anyone's diet. The Freak Shakes are a special treat that are definitely worth checking out.
If massive ice cream creations are not your thing, Stomping Ground does have a full coffee bar, and a great atmosphere.
When we made the trip to Stomping Grounds we happened to be the a-holes that show up right before closing. I expected the people working there to be slightly annoyed, but it was actually the opposite.
They took our Freak Shake orders and made sure that the kids eyes popped out of their heads as they were delivered. It just so happened that the Lions were playing on the TV, so once it was officially closing time, they turned up the volume and invited us to sit and watch the rest of the game.
I don't get to Durand very often, in fact that may have been my first time in Durand, but the people at Stomping Grounds are definitely a hidden gem in a small town.
