AAA Travel projects that almost 1.5 million Michigan residents and over 46 million Americans will journey more than 50 miles during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. According to AAA, this is the highest volume for the holiday in seven years with a four percent increase statewide and a 4.2 percent increase nationally.

AAA also says that those celebrating the holiday with a road trip will likely enjoy the lowest Thanksgiving gas prices in five years with averages between $2.85 and $2.92 per gallon. However, those traveling by air will like see a small increase of one percent over airfare last year. Hotels and car rentals are also up eight and ten percent respectively.

Susan Hiltz, AAA Michigan Public Affairs Director, said "an improving economy and the lowest gas prices we've seen in four years will give Michiganders plenty to be thankful this holiday season."

The Thanksgiving holiday travel period is defined as Wednesday, November 26 through Sunday, November 30th.
