The rapid spread of norovirus cases in Michigan has health officials very concerned. Last week, it was reported that officials with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services had seen an increase of norovirus activity throughout the state. This week, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is reminding residents about the proper way to wash their hands in order to help prevent the spread of norovirus.

It's something we should ALL already know how to do, but the MDHHS says that the best way to limit the spread of norovirus is frequent hand washing for at least 20 seconds using soap and warm running water, being sure to completely clean all areas of hands and under fingernails. They add that this is especially important after using the bathroom or before preparing or eating food. Also, if you've been using hand sanitizer and think that it's keeping you protected from getting norovirus...well, think again. Officials say that hand sanitizers are ineffective against the virus.
