Nas Debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 With 10th Album ‘Life Is Good’
Life is really good for Nas. The veteran rhyme-slinger notched his sixth No. 1 album with ‘Life Is Good.’ The collection premiered atop the Billboard 200 chart with 149,000 copies sold in its first week of release, according to Billboard.
Nas’ critically-acclaimed album also debuted at No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, which will be his ninth chart-topper on that particular tally. Only fellow rapper and once arch-enemy Jay-Z has earned more leaders on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart, with 12 No. 1 albums.
The New York rapper was able to fend off last week’s No. 1 title holder, the Zac Brown Band’s ‘Uncaged,’ which dipped to No. 2 with 78,000 copies sold. Coming in at No. 3 was the 22nd edition of the ‘Kidz Bop’ compilation with 64,000 units moved. R&B crooner Frank Ocean‘s ‘Channel Orange’ fell two spots down to No. 4 with 54,000 copies sold and rounding out the Top 5 is Justin Bieber‘s ‘Believe’ with 45,000 discs pushed.
Meanwhile, Nas is prepping two music videos for ‘Reach Out,’ his ’90s-era-themed duet with Mary J. Blige and ‘Bye Baby.’ The latter song is his reflective ode to his failed marriage to Kelis. “I’m looking forward to shooting ‘Bye Baby,’ and making it like a movie,” he tells MTV’s RapFix. “I want to do a lot of videos to this album. It’s a video age. I want to do more than I’m known for doing.”
