Brent Vanderhaar is the retired Saginaw detective who will be facing eight felony counts of child pornography after he dropped three SD cards at a gas station.

The cards contained more than 100,000 child porn images, and were turned over to police.  The images apparently showed two victims who were relatives, and most of them took place in Vanderhaar's home.

Vanderhaar was arrested, and sat in court yesterday while the charges were presented to him.  The prosecutor has said that she plans to take this case to the furthest limits allowed by the law.

As a parent, this story makes my stomach turn.  It's impossible to hear about things like this without immediately turning thoughts to your own children.  It's an uncomfortable talk for sure, but please make sure that your own kids know that they need to tell you if anything like this happens to them.  It sounds like common sense, but emotional trauma can sometimes throw common sense out the window.
