After nearly 30 years of oohs and ahhs, has the Slam Dunk Contest become medicore and less entertaining? Watching Michael Jordan float from the free throw line to a perfect 50 victory over  Dominique Wilkins in 1988 was much more intriguing then, than seeing James "Flight" White tomahawk slam from just inside the line now, why?

This can be summed up in two ways:

Number 1: Everything has been done already, their is nothing no one has successfully attempted or finished that is "New", the free throw line has become a safety for these high flyers of the 21st Century and it is common to see(not do) now a days what used to be a rare dunk: Between the legs.

Number 2: THESE ARE NOT ALL STARS!!!!! The last and most important factor is that these All Star Dunk Contest participants are not All Stars, yes they are in their own rights, but on paper during the All Star Game in most cases these guys are spectators. Back in the heyday of All Star Weekend, ONLY ALL STARS WHO PLAYED ON SUNDAY PARTICIPATED IN THE ALL STAR FESTIVITIES OF THE WEEKEND.

Watch this video below and tell me if All Star Weekend's Slam Dunk Contest is still as exciting today as it was 20 years ago, heck maybe even 10 years ago.
