Davison Man Faces 20 Years For Using Skype To Attain Child Porn
A Davison man plead guilty to sharing child porn last week, and is now facing up to 20 years in federal prison.
According to Mlive, 34 year old Michael Jeremy Cook, plead guilty to one count of distribution of child porn. There is a 20 year maximum sentence, along with a multi year supervision time after release.
Cook was found to be part of an online community that shared child porn images, and videos. When asked in court, Cook admitted to viewing the porn for a couple of years.
He also admitted to tricking minor boys into showing themselves to him via Skype, by pretending to be a woman. He said that he had tried to trick at least 20 minors into committing sexual acts on Skype.
Cook will be sentenced on September 14th.
The story itself is hard to swallow, but the craziest part is that Cooks family and employer were both completely blindsided by the news. It just goes to show how little we actually know about some people.
This should also serve as another reminder to talk to your kids about online safety. Make sure they know that the stranger they may be talking to online most likely does not have their best interests at heart. The best practice is to teach them not to respond to anyone they have not met in real life. Then to double check and make sure the person on the other end is who they say they are.
