A Northern Michigan police officer has been arrested after being put on administrative leave for five charges including three charges of possession of child sexually abusive material.

Grand Traverse Police officer John Scheiding was arrested on Monday after being arrested for having child pornography. Deputies were at Scheiding's residence on the 27th of April after a call was placed for a welfare check. Deputies received information that Scheiding may have been involved in criminal activity and investigated. The Sheriff's office met with prosecutors the next day and started the investigation. Michigan State Police took over the investigation. The Sheriff's office says that Scheiding was placed on administrative leave during the investigation.

Sheriff's office state that Scheiding was arrested today from the investigation that began on April 27th. If convicted Scheiding could face up to 12 years in prison.
