If you're sick, you shouldn't be visiting patients in the hospital. Period. McLaren Flint and Ascension Genesys Hospitals have implemented tighter restrictions on visitors as many people across Michigan have taken ill from the Flu.

Michigan is the second sickest state in the US, as 7% of the population or 700,000 people have reported having flu-like symptoms. A reported 4.6 million people nationwide are currently suffering from the flu or flu-like symptoms.

As of today (1/7), McLaren Flint is implementing the following policy regarding hospital visitors:

Children under the age of 12, as well as anyone with the following symptoms are asked not to visit patients in the hospital.

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny Nose, Nasal Congestion
  • Stomach virus symptoms

Patients and visitors with any of these symptoms will be asked to wear a mask, according to a press release. Visitors are urged to wash their hands before and after each visit.

Restrictions are similar at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, except they are only allowing children to visit the hospital if they are 14 years of age or above. No more than two visitors are allowed to visit a patient at any one time.
