According to a new study, Flint leads the nation when it comes to vacant homes, and the problem isn't really being dealt with.

Real Trac reports that the vacancy rate is at 7.2% in residential properties, with equals 11,000 vacant homes.

There are countless factors contributing to this disturbing fact, but the biggest is that nobody is looking to move into Flint.  The housing supply has gotten much greater than the demand.

Normally a well kept house will eventually sell, even if the price has to drop significantly for that to happen.  In our area, houses are not selling, even at amazingly low discounts.  Then that property risks adding to the blight issue that the state and city are currently fighting.

The water crisis is the icing on a very bad cake.  Now the prospect of bringing new residents to Flint, replacing the ones that leave, is almost impossible.
