The Flint Inner-City Youth Hockey program is an amazing opportunity for kids in Flint to learn the game of hockey without worrying about all of the costs.

Rico Phillips started the league for kids in Flint in 2010, and has been over it every year since. He stopped by the Club 93.7 studios to talk about the league, and I was blown away by the face that it is completely free!

Rico explained that a many local businesses have teamed up to help make sure that kids in Flint can be exposed to hockey.

Registration is completely free, along with free use of all of the equipment needed thanks to Perani's Hockey World. There are even free rides to and from practices if needed!

The program runs on Saturdays starting on January 5th, and runs for 9 weeks. It is open for boys and girls from ages 8-11.

Rico explained that he loves to see girls get on the ice because if they decide that hockey is not their thing, this also works as an introduction to figure skating. Rico was quick to say that there were plenty of girls who can definitely handle themselves on the ice with the boys though.
