I am extremely proud of my boy Brian Larkin for coming back home and getting right to it.  A graduate of the best High School in the area, Flint Northern, Mr. Larkin is in the right position to help bring Flint back.

Soon we will address him as Dr. Brian Larkin after his receives his doctorate degree from U of M-Ann Arbor in Urban & Region development. If you know his academic background, you will know he is fit for the job of Urban and Metropolitan Initiatives.  I personally know Brian Larkin and will vouch for his character and integrity.  I couldn't think of anyone else for the job.

"My mother, Lynn Larkin, at the Community Foundation of Flint always instilled pride in the community and the need to give back," said the younger Larkin.

So after graduating from Flint Northern High School in 2002, Larkin pursued a business degree at Morehouse College in Atlanta, then a degree in urban planning at Florida State University. He is now completing his doctoral work at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in the field of urban and regional planning.

A month ago, Larkin was asked to head up the Flint office of the newly created Governor's Office of Urban and Metropolitan Initiatives. He sees the position as a culmination of his passion and studies since youth.

"I always knew I wanted to come back and help lead the charge and revitalization of the city, said Larkin.
