With tons of bottled water flooding into help with the Flint Water Crisis, the AIA Flint Chapter has some very useful safety tips for people storing water.

The American Institute of Architects - Flint Chapter, has released some simple guidelines that will help keep you, and your bottled water safe.

They outline a few major points that everyone should follow when stacking cases of water.

  • Cases of water should be stacked no more than 2 cases high in a 2 square foot area.
  • Best place to store water is in a garage or basement on a concrete floor.
  • Water is safest stored against an exterior wall rather than the middle of a room.

Another key to keeping water safe while storing it, is to try and keep it out of sunlight.  A dark room will extend the life of any stored water.

If water is stored for more than 6 months, it should be checked before drinking.
