Some other people who don't trust a bank might store money under their mattress, or inside their freezer.

They might even go to extremes, like people did during the Great Depression, and bury their items in the backyard so nobody else will know where they are.

That's exactly what a Michigan man recently did after winning big on a lottery ticket.

Michigan Man Buries Winning Lottery Ticket For Safe Keepings

This story is crazy, but it ends up with a Michigan man become an overnight millionaire.

The man who chose to remain anonymous was accidentally given a Major Cashword ticket instead of the one that he asked for.

The clerk offered to switch the tickets, but the man decided to keep it, and I'm pretty sure he made the right choice because the next day when he scratched it, he was a $1 million winner.

Now, here is where things get crazy to me: the man decided that the best way to keep his winning ticket safe was to put it in a glass jar and bury it in his yard.

Apparently, he was concerned that if he kept it inside his house, something might happen to it.

There is no way I would ever do that.

I'd be worried that somehow it would rain and get the ticket wet and disintegrate, but luckily for him, that didn't happen.

The man was able to cash in his winning ticket and chose the cash option, which amounted to around $634,000.

He plans to use the money to pay bills, pay off his home, and save for retirement.

I hope this time he puts the money in the bank and not inside a jar underground.
