The Capitol Theatre in Flint, MI originally opened in 1928.

Flint's historic Capitol Theatre first opened back in 1928 and designed by architect John Eberson. In 1985, The Capitol Theatre was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Michigan. Just recently, it was restored, renovated, and reopened in December of 2017.

Architect John Eberson was also the architect for several other theatres in Michigan including The Palace Theatre in Flint. Eberson also designed Strand Theatre and Arcade in Lansing, State Theatre in Kalamazoo, Riviera Theatre in Detroit, and more.

If you haven't been inside The Capitol Theatre since the renovation, you owe it to yourself to check it out. It is beautiful! The Capitol hosts "Movies at the Capitol" with upcoming features such as O Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Princess Bride, and more. Upcoming music artists include The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jay Allen, and others. Check out upcoming events here. 

Back in 2022, I was lucky enough to get a behind-the-scenes and backstage tour of The Capitol. I was able to see pretty much every portion of the theatre from the backstage areas, all the way to the top of the catwalk, the inner depths of the building, and more. Check out all the photos below.

After I thought I would be able to capture some great photos and that was it. I was so wrong. I could have stayed for hours learning about the history of not just the building itself, but also those who have been in it. For example, I had no idea that there was once a bowling alley in the "basement."
