The Old Bubba O’Malley’s Building in Burton Is Coming Down
We told you last year that the old Bubba O’Malley’s building in Burton could be torn down. Well, it’s happening.
And yes, we know it was last called Elwood’s Restaurant and Pub. But come on, for a lot of us, it’ll always be Bubba O’Malley’s.
Demolition Underway at Former Bubba O’Malley’s in Burton

New photos show the building on Belsay Road near I-69 being torn down, with chunks of the roof missing, walls ripped apart, and debris scattered around the property.
Man, it’s a little weird seeing it like that. Maybe you grabbed dinner there, spent a Friday night hanging out with friends, or were there for the first-ever Free Beer and Hot Wings live show. If so, you probably get it.
Elwood’s closed in 2018, and the building has been sitting empty for years. Still, seeing it empty and seeing it being demolished are two very different things.

Gas Station Proposed for Old Bubba O’Malley’s Property
Back in May 2025, we reported that a developer wanted to tear down the restaurant and replace it with a gas station and convenience store. Burton’s Planning Commission agenda from that month also listed a site plan for a convenience store with gas and diesel pumps at the address.
We haven’t confirmed an opening date or whether those plans have changed since then.
Whatever ends up there, I have a feeling people will still be giving directions by saying, “You know, where Bubba O’Malley’s used to be.”
