The new Bruce Springsteen movie, Deliver Me From Nowhere, has some pretty cool Michigan connections.

If you have already seen the film, did you spot some familiar faces in the Stone Pony Scene? Bruce Springsteen, played by Jeremy Allen White, is performing at the popular New Jersey club, backed by a house band that includes two members of Greta Van Fleet.

That’s right. Brothers Jake Kiszka, the guitarist, and Sam Kiszka, the bassist, of Greta Van Fleet, both former residents of Frankenmuth, appear in the film.

According to Guitar World, keyboardist Bobby Emmett, known for performing with Jack White’s band, is also part of the movie’s house band.

How did Jake and Sam Kizska end up in Deliver Me From Nowhere?

It all began with producer Dave Cobb. According to the story, Cobb was already involved in the film’s production when director Scott Cooper mentioned that he was looking for a Greta Van Fleet–type band to play the Stone Pony house band.

As luck would have it, Dave Cobb had produced Greta Van Fleet’s 2023 album Starcatcher. The rest, as they say, is movie history.

What other Michigan connections can be found in Deliver Me From Nowhere?

Paul Walter Hauser, who plays Mike Batlan in the film, is originally from Grand Rapids.

In Deliver Me From Nowhere, Hauser portrays the real-life guitar tech and engineer who helped Bruce Springsteen record Nebraska.

I have not seen the movie yet, but my boyfriend Nick assures me it’s great. Since he’s usually right about movies and music, and only movies and music, I will take his word for it.
