
Lapeer County Couple Arrested on Torture and Child Abuse Charges
A Lapeer County couple is behind bars following allegations of horrific child abuse involving their infant son.
The investigation and subsequent arrests stem from events that occurred in September 2025.
Reports vary on the child’s exact age, with sources indicating he was either 2 or 3 months old at the time of the alleged abuse. According to ABC 12, Troy and Alyssa Holt brought the child to McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital after he became lethargic and unresponsive.
Hospital staff immediately recognized that the young boy had severe injuries, including detached retinas and a significant brain bleed.

The child was then transferred to Hurley Children's Hospital in Flint and also spent time undergoing treatment at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor. The young boy did survive his injuries, but is permanently disabled.
Fast forward to May 2026, Troy Holt, 30, was arrested on Friday, May 1, in Battle Creek while attending Michigan National Guard training. His wife, Alyssa Holt, 27, was also arrested the same day in Davison Township.

According to The County Press, Troy and Alyssa Holt are both scheduled to return to court on Thursday, May 8, 2026.
The child is now reportedly living with a foster family. The case is deeply distressing, and the extent of what he has endured is difficult to comprehend. It serves as a heartbreaking reminder of how vulnerable young children are in situations like this, and the focus now remains on his recovery, safety, and well-being moving forward.
