Michigan resident William Post, the creator of Pop-Tarts, has passed away at the age of 96.

According to the New York Post, Mr. Post died on Saturday, February 10th, 2024.

William Post grew up in Grand Rapids and after retiring, Post lived in Glen Arbor, Michigan, where he continued as a consultant for The Keebler Company for 20 years.

Post is best known for creating Pop-Tarts in 1964. His delicious creation inspired an upcoming Netflix film, 'Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story', written and directed by Jerry Seinfeld.

The movie has some big names attached to it. Starring alongside Jerry Seinfeld are Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, Hugh Grant, Christian Slater, Bill Burr, Daniel Levy, James Marsden, and Fred Armisen (just to name a few).

The movie is based in Michigan in 1963, a year before Pop-Tarts was invented. According to Netflix, Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever.

The film will begin streaming on Netflix in May 2024.

A service will be held for William Post on Thursday, March 7th, 2024 at LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids. You can read the full obituary here.
