Elementary Students Reportedly Selling Vapes In Genesee County
Here’s something that’s becoming a real issue in Genesee County schools, and honestly, it sounds way more complicated than kids sneaking cigarettes in the bathroom like years ago.
Vape Devices Becoming Harder To Detect In Schools
Bentley Community Schools says vaping has become a major problem, and according to Bentley High School Principal Justin Dickerson, it’s not just happening in high school anymore. They’re seeing it with younger students too, even at the elementary level. And the wild part is how hard these things are to spot now.

Dickerson says some vape devices look exactly like USB drives or regular electronics. He talked about one student who was literally charging a vape in their Chromebook during class because the teacher initially thought it was just a flash drive.

He also says it’s not only nicotine vapes showing up. Marijuana pens are becoming an issue too, and unlike cigarettes, there usually aren’t obvious signs. Sometimes staff think they smell a vape, but it could just be cologne or body spray.
Bentley Principal Says Students Are Reselling Vapes
What really stands out is how students are apparently getting them. Dickerson says one student told him kids are buying vapes through older connections, meeting people behind stores, then reselling them to classmates for profit. In Michigan, you have to be 21 to legally buy vape products.

According to MidMichiganNow.com, Bentley now requires 25 hours of community service for students caught with vapes at school. And maybe the most shocking part? Dickerson says he’s aware of a situation where an elementary student was reportedly selling vapes to high schoolers.
