When investigators begin looking into cases like this, they sometimes discover the situation is much larger than it first appeared. That's exactly what Genesee County Sheriff's deputies say happened during this investigation.

Family Members Helped Investigators

A 40-year-old Grand Blanc Township man, Terrance Phipps, is being held in the Genesee County Jail after investigators say he sexually assaulted a 12-year-old child.

According to Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, members of Phipps' own family contacted authorities and turned him in on July 3, allowing detectives to begin their investigation.

Detectives Believe More Victims Could Exist

As detectives continued gathering evidence, investigators say they identified a second alleged victim who is now 20 years old according to Mid-Michigan Now.

Sheriff Swanson believes the investigation may uncover even more victims. At this point, investigators think there could be at least six additional people who have not yet come forward.

Sheriff Encourages Victims to Contact Investigators

The Genesee County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who believes they may have been victimized, or anyone with information that could assist the investigation, to contact detectives.

Phipps has been charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and is currently being held without bond in the Genesee County Jail while the case proceeds through the court system.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and Phipps is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The investigation remains active, and detectives continue asking anyone with relevant information to reach out to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.
