A Michigan man is now facing multiple serious charges after investigators say they found tens of thousands of sexually explicit images of children on his computer. Not a handful, we’re talking more than 40,000 images.

How The Investigation Started In South Lyon

And here’s where it gets even more disturbing. According to WWJ, 35-year-old Austin McCarty told his wife that he used AI to create some of them. His wife is actually the reason any of this came to light in the first place.

Back in January of 2025, she says she saw an image on his computer that immediately raised red flags. She did the right thing and reported it. Authorities stepped in, took his devices, and spent about a year going through everything. That’s when they say they uncovered thousands of these images.

Does AI Change The Law In Cases Like This

And just to be clear, prosecutors say it doesn’t matter how these images were made. Whether it’s AI or something else, it still falls under the same laws because it involves the exploitation of children. And honestly, the fact that technology is even being used this way just adds another layer to how disturbing this whole situation is.
