Fatal Crash Shuts Down Dort Hwy/Grand Blanc Rd
A tragic and deadly crash shut down a major Mid-Michigan intersection Thursday afternoon (7/24/2025). Around 4 p.m., a Ram pickup truck collided with a semi-truck at the busy intersection of Dort Highway and Grand Blanc Road, bringing traffic to a standstill.
Major Crash Occurs at Busy Mid-Michigan Intersection
According to Genesee County 911 Central Dispatch, the intersection was officially closed at 4:04 p.m., followed by the nearby intersection of Grand Blanc Road and Embury Road just one minute later. As of this report, both intersections remain closed due to an ongoing police investigation.
Police Investigation Underway, Fault Unknown
The Grand Blanc Township Police Department confirms they are still working to determine fault—whether the driver of the pickup or the semi was responsible. Sadly, the crash claimed the life of a female passenger in the Ram truck. Authorities say the woman, who was in her mid-60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic Backups Cause Commuter Delays
The timing of the closure—just before the afternoon rush—created significant traffic backups for Michiganders commuting through the Grand Blanc area. Drivers were forced to navigate around the shutdown using alternate routes.
For motorists exiting I-75 at the Grand Blanc Road exit intending to travel north, options were extremely limited. With Grand Blanc Road blocked from both Dort Highway and Embury Road, the only access north was via Cook Road to either Fenton Road or Holly Road—both of which added several miles to the commute.

Please use caution in the area and stay updated with local authorities for reopening details.
