The fact is, not all Michigan workers have paid sick time. The Michigan group Time to Care wants to change that this November. The group turned in over 380,000 signatures to the Secretary of State's office this week to get mandatory sick time on the November ballot.

The Earned Sick Time Act would grant all Michigan workers at least one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. If you are full time that would give you around a week and a half of paid sick time each year. Businesses with over 10 employees would be required to give employees 72 hours of paid sick time each year. Businesses with less than 10 employees would have to give workers 40 hours per year.

The Earned Sick Time Act is waiting for certification from the Michigan Board of State Canvassers to check all the signatures. Once that is completed it will head to the legislature. Even if the measure is rejected there it could still end up on the popular vote in November.
