New Michigan Bill Bans Medical Marijuana Use in Rental Properties
The new legislation signed by Governor Rick Snyder allows landlords to prohibit medical marijuana patients from smoking and growing marijuana on rented properties.
A new law enacted in Michigan in 2017 allows landlords to prohibit medical marijuana patients from smoking and growing marijuana on the property.
The new law is an extension to the Medical Marijuana law that was passed by voters in 2008. The addition comes after Republican Senator Rick Jones of Grand Ledge, MI says two rentals in his community were destroyed from patients turning properties into "greenhouses to grow marijuana without permission."
Senator Jones also stated that growing marijuana for medical reasons "doesn't trump safety or private property rights."
