R. Kelly secures a legal win.

According to a report TMZ published on Wednesday (May 8), Kelly avoided additional jail time in his current child support case by paying the remaining $62,000 balance to his ex-wife, Andrea Kelly. Unfortunately for the embattled singer, this does not cover the $32,000 in interest he accrued while the balance was outstanding.

The celebrity news site reports that Kelly appeared in court on Wednesday morning to pay the balance, which was a total for what was owed for payments he missed in March, April and May of this year. He's currently up-to-date in monthly payments to his ex-wife and expected to continue paying the $20,000 a month once June arrives. In addition, Andrea reportedly now wants the singer to pay for their 21-year-old daughter Buku Abi's education expenses. Kelly's lawyer reportedly wants proof that Buku's enrolled.

This news comes two months after Kelly was arrested on March 6 for failure to pay over $160,000 in child support. He was subsequently released from jail three days later when a friend of his stepped up to pay the debt.

"I promise you, we're going to straighten all this stuff out. That's all I can say right now. I promise you," Kelly told reporters upon his release from Chicago's Cook County Jail at the time.

While Kelly has avoided additional jail time for this matter, he still has a big legal battle ahead of him. On Feb. 22, the singer was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse after four women accused him of sexually abusing them over various periods of time.

Kelly also lost a civil lawsuit on April 25 after he failed to appear in court. TMZ reports that today a Cook County judge reversed the default judgment against him.
