Roseville Woman Donates Life-Saving Kidney to Her Husband of 26 Years
A Roseville man is alive today thanks to his wife of 26 years who donated one of her kidneys after he went into full kidney failure earlier this year.
Longtime diabetic Sean McNeil collapsed on their family room floor back in April after going into kidney failure. He wasn't able to get up off the floor or even yell for anyone to help him. His wife walked into the room and saw her husband lying helpless on the floor so she immediately called 911.
According to Fox 2, once at the hospital, Sean learned both of his kidneys were shot and he would need dialysis and eventually a kidney transplant. It was a life-changing day for both Sean and Renee (wife), who stepped up to try to become a living donor. She went through extensive testing and ended up being a perfect match.
Renee McNeil:
I just walked over and gave him a big hug and told him you're getting my kidney. You're going to make it through this.
Just to see his face. Sitting in that bed, knowing he's going to be with me the rest of our life - just made it all worth it.
Back in October, a Beaumont transplant surgeon removed one of Renee’s two kidneys and gave it to Sean. It was a total success and Sean now has a second shot at life.
I just knew it was the right thing to do. I wanted to make sure he had that opportunity. I said I need him in my life just as much. I can’t go on without him. I need him just as much as he needs me. He’s my best friend.
I would like to think that anyone would do this for a loved one or even a perfect stranger. I would give up any part of my body if it meant saving my girlfriend's life. I mean she already has my heart so why not throw a couple of organs at her as well.
