Thanks to a federal grant, the Saginaw Fire Department will be able to put about 2,000 smoke detectors into Saginaw homes.

The $23,000 is coming from the Department of Homeland Security and is aimed at improving safety. This also comes after a similar grant that helped to put in more than 1,000 Carbon Monoxide detectors.

The Saginaw Fire Chief told WNEM that he is very grateful for the federal grant.
