Downtown Detroit is going to transform again this summer as the block party vibe will begin with the Monroe Street Midway.

Earlier this year Bedrock Detroit worked with the city to turn Monroe St into a drive in movie theater. Now Bedrock Detroit is teaming up with Decked Out Detroit to turn Monroe St into one big summer block party. The idea is called the Monroe Street Midway, and it will feature everything from roller-skating and art galleries to food trucks and a sports zone.

So what exactly is the Monroe Street Midway?

Monroe Street Midway is a collaboration between the City of Detroit, the Downtown Detroit Partnership, Decked Out Detroit, Bedrock Detroit, and many more great organizations. The vibe is set to feel like an old school summer block party set right in the heart of the city.

What type of activities will be on the Monroe Street Midway?

There will be something for everyone according to event organizers. The area will be broken into a few different zones for everyone to enjoy based on what you like to do.

  • Rollout Detroit is the giant roller rink at the center of the midway. It's goal is to pay homage to the roll bounce history in Detroit. Skating is put on by Rollercade Detroit, and is by reservation only, and you can reserve your spot here. The rink will be open from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday-Wednesday and 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday-Saturday
  • The Rocket Mortgage Sports Zone features a few basketball courts and an all purpose sports court.
  • Works of Art will be featured throughout the entire midway, including the art created on the ground that people will be walking on.
  • There will also be performances by DJ's and other artists along with a variety of food trucks.

There will be plenty of free parking, you can get the parking details here.
