We are about four months away before the release of the most anticipated film of the summer, the Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me, hit theaters. On Friday (Feb. 11), fans received an early sneak peak of the movie in a new trailer.

Consequence of Sound premiered the one-minute long clip, which featured a brief appearance of Jamal Woolard who reprises his role as the Notorious B.I.G. and The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira, who plays 2Pac’s late mother Afeni Shakur.

The trailer is based on Afeni’s fiery sermon to his son to stay true to his warrior spirit. “Son, this ain’t just about you,” she says. “Like all black men, you have a bullseye on your back. They are gonna come after you and everything you love. They are gonna give you the tools that you need to destroy yourself. So above all else, to thy own self, be true.”

Demetrius Shipp, Jr. makes his acting debut playing the iconic rap figure Tupac, while Dominic L. Santana portrays the menacing, cigar-smoking Suge Knight. In addition, acting newcomers Kat Graham plays Shakur’s longtime confident Jada Pinkett, Grace Gibson plays Faith Evans and John West Jr. will portray Naughty by Nature rhymer Treach, who was also very close to 2Pac when he was alive.

Director Benny Boom helmed All Eyez on Me and judging by the trailer it looks as if he definitely captured the essence of the late rapper. The biopic, which got picked up by Lionsgate, will open in theaters on June 16 on what would have been Tupac’s 46th birthday.
