The decision to not charge Darren Wilson with the murder of Michael Brown in Ferguson has lead to everything from prayers to burning police cars.  So who is actually doing the most good to prove their point?

That question is obviously unanswerable, but the idea of a correct response is definitely worth a discussion.

Violence? Protest? Prayer? Rally? Discussion?

These are five of the many options people have when it comes to reacting to a dividing decision like this.  I personally have watched peaceful, logic minded people, demand that a violent protest is the best thing to do.

We all have different motivations for our personal reactions, but it's the extremes that catch the headlines.

I'll say it again that there is no correct answer to the question of how we should react, but maybe there is a correct question we should all be asking.

What do I want to accomplish with my reaction?

If your goal is anarchy, then by all means, set things on fire.  If your goal is justice, then maybe a car fire isn't the best option.  If your goal is peaceful relations, then standing idly by on the sideline won't get you any closer.

Instead of letting raw emotion dictate the reactions you may have, ask what it is you would like to see happen in the end.  If you can find a clear answer to that question, you are closer to making a good decision in your reaction.

Nobody should pretend to know what someone else feels in a situation like this.

I personally feel like violence is never the correct response.  I think a violence reacting to violence only adds fuel to an already growing fire.  Watching the footage that TV stations put out there was scary, shocking, and sad.  I hope everyone stops and takes a moment to ask themselves what the result of their actions will be, and will they be happy with that.

I don't endorse anything in the video below, I'm just putting it here for those who may not have watched any of the raw footage from Ferguson.
