Meet Tia Ewing from WNEM TV5.  Tia Ewing sees herself as an everyday person, who just so happens to love her job on television. She grew up in the inner city of Chicago, Illinois and learned early education was her key out of an impoverished environment.

Tia says her life is extremely fast paced as an Anchor and Reporter for WNEM TV 5; at times she has just a few minutes to write a story.

Tia believes her position is an act of community service.

When off-air you can find Tia serving the community, as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint. Tia never turns down a public appearance, speaking engagement, or volunteer opportunity. In three years, Tia has given back to the Mid-Michigan area by volunteering her time; speaking at over 200 events for children, non-profit organizations, and colleges.

Her start in journalism is a story in its own right. Tia remembers catching the bus with 50 pounds of camera gear to shoot stories while in college. Tia says no one gave her anything; she worked hard for everything; determined to get to where she is.

Tia's faith and prayers keeps her going. Tia says being in Michigan, she gets slack for being a graduate from The Ohio State University, but that’s fine with her; she will forever bleed scarlet and grey. Tia spent two years in Pittsburgh, PA; where she received a Master’s in Mass Communication emphasis in Journalism from Point Park University.

Tia's slogan in life is simple; it’s not what happens to you in life, it’s how you chose to respond.
