Big Sean “Overtime”: Listen to New Song

Big Sean is back with some new music.

After teasing the record last night, the Detroit spitta finally returns today (July 24) by debuting his first solo record of the year "Overtime" on Zane Lowe's show on Beats 1 Radio. In the clip he shared on July 24, Sean enters his personal studio and turns on neon light that reads "Don Life." Seconds later, we hear Sean rap about what he's been going through lately including his battle with depression and possibly his break-up with Jhene Aiko.

"Shit, I didn’t take a break my nigga, I broke," Sean raps. "Broke my heart, broke my soul, don’t cry for me though/If you don’t break nothing down then it's no room to grow/One mental block lead to another, shit it's dominos/Mixtape Sean, but I’m in album mode."

The song, which is produced Hit-Boy, Key Wane and Milo, might be the first song off his upcoming fifth studio album. Sean says the record is about returning to the basics.

"In a sense, I just been returning to my roots, bro," Sean tells Zane about the song. "I've just been getting back to having fun with it. You know what I'm saying? At one point I felt like it might have started to become like a burden, or like work, but now it's just fun. So this is just me having fun bro, expressing myself. It was a time well spent. I never really knew how important it was to take some time for myself and get myself right. And it takes a while so it can take ... That's something you can't really put on a time schedule. But you know, throughout that whole time I've been working on music so it is good to get it out. It is good for people to just finally see where we are because I got so much just ready for the world. It's deeper than just putting music out. It's like I feel like I got a lot to say that a lot of people may not be addressing right now. You know what I'm saying? As far as just emotions and feelings that a lot of people are going through."

It's been well over two years since we received Sean's last solo album I Decided, which features songs like "Bounce Back" and "Moves." Since then, Sean has collaborated with the likes of Metro Boomin for their joint project Double or Nothing and DJ Khaled for his Father of Asahd album.

There's no confirmed release date for Big Sean's upcoming LP, but it seems as though he's been working on it for quite some time. Last year, Sean canceled his Unfriendly Reminder tour to work on new music.
