Davison Community Schools Push Back Start Date to September 8th

Davison Community Schools have just announced that they have pushed back the start date of the 2020/2021 school year.

Davison Community Schools have announced that the new start date for the 2020/2021 school year will be after Labor Day on September 8th. On Friday, Governor Whitmer extended the state of emergency for Michigan to September 4th. The terms of the executive order complicate opening the school and add more challenges.

Under the executive order, those with COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, sore throat, dry cough, and more are required to self-quarantine for 14 days or until the receive a negative COVID-19 test. It also requires those who have been within six feet of someone showing symptoms for 15 minutes also must self-quarantine.

In preparation for the new school year, Davison Community Schools have done a number of things to try and make it as safe as possible for students. Some of those preparations include:

• Reassigning 21 of their K-6 teachers to teach online.
• The schools have begun hiring additional staff to try and reduce class sizes in the building for face-to-face learning.
• An additional 2,500 Chromebooks have been purchased for student use.
• The reorganization of scheduling from the normal six classes to four hours face-to-face and two hours of online learning, and more.

So even though the staff and administrators from Davison Community Schools have been working tirelessly to prepare for the school year, the decision was made to push back the start date. Instead of the kids starting school next week, they will now have to wait until September 8th to venture into the new and strange 2020/2021 school year. For more information, click here.
