Flint Advising Residents To Keep Water Running During Polar Vortex
With record low temperatures in store for Genesee County this week it's important to keep your water pipes from freezing.
That's why The City of Flint Water Department is recommending that you keep a steady stream of cold water running during the Polar Vortex. The recommendation is to keep a stream about the size of a pencil running at all times.
You should choose a faucet farthest away from the meter in order to make sure that water is running through your entire system.
Some other tips include making sure that there is no extreme cold air flow in the basement or crawl space of your house. Leaving cabinet doors open underneath sinks to let warm air into the area.
Luckily the coldest of the temperatures are only expected to last a couple of days. Don't make the mistake of thinking you don't have to do anything though. Not taking any precautions can lead to very expensive damages if pipes do freeze.
