Flushing and Birch Run Added To Area Schools Hit With Viral Meningitis
Viral Meningitis has been popping up in area schools lately with Flushing and Birch Run being the latest districts to confirm cases.
The first cases of viral meningitis were confirmed in our area about two weeks ago. Elementary schools in Clio and Caro along with a middle school in Frankenmuth all confirmed viral meningitis cases.
WJRT reports that the latest viral meningitis happened at Springview Elementary in Flushing and Marshall Greene Middle school in Birch Run.
While Viral Meningitis is considered less severe than Bacterial Meningitis, it is still very contagious. Symptoms are usually best treated with rest, fluids and keeping any fever controlled. The best way to prevent the spread of Viral Meningitis is proper hand washing and avoiding areas that have had confirmed cases until they are properly cleaned.
