There is hope for our youth in Genesee County after hearing that Grand Blanc High School Freshman class voted two special education students to the homecoming court.

Homecoming is this weekend with a ton of festivities for students. This year, Aidan Silverton and Hannah Abdelkader will be the prince and princess for the homecoming court after they won over their fellow students.

Aidan asked Hannah to the homecoming by making a poster with a poem on it reading,

"Roses are red, violets are blue, your my best frie(n)d, I'd love to go with you" written on it."

In addition to the poster, Aidan left a chalk message in the driveway with a bonquet of roses for Hannah. This is exactly how you're suppose to ask someone to the dance.

The word has spread in the school about how Aidan asked Hannah and the entire freshman class voted them into the court.  Students at Grand Blanc voiced their praise for the two freshmen prince and princess.

"They're some of the nicest people. They're always smiling and having a good time," said freshman Brogen Witucki, 14. "I think it's because everyone loves them. And we're really happy they're able to go to school with us."

I am truly happy to see students coming together and not excluding the special education students for homecoming.  I remember when I was in high school, we never paid much attention to our special education students.  That was a huge mistake.  Again, mad shout outs to Grand Blanc High School's freshman class.
