Today, April 13, is the 33rd birthday of Aftermath rapper Jon Connor.

Originally hailing from Flint, Mich., Jon got his start in hip-hop around 2005, after dropping a series of mixtapes. Connor gained steam in the hip-hop community but really got out of the underground buzz in 2011, with his album Salvation, a collaboration LP with producer Rob "Reef" Tewlow and 2012's The Blue Album, a mixtape where he rapped over various Jay-Z instrumentals from Jay's past three Blueprint albums.

With an inventive marketing strategy (literally comparing himself to one of the best in the game on the same beats) and his engaging flow, Connor was on an upward trajectory as one of hip-hop's best MCs. Connor signed to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records in 2013, and was named a member of the 2014 XXL Freshman Class alongside the likes of Vic Mensa, Kevin Gates and Chance The Rapper.

Connor made lyrical appearances on Dr. Dre's Compton album. Aside from music, one cause that Connor has been vocal about in 2016 is the Flint Water Crisis. The residents of Flint have had to suffer after using contaminated water for months with the local government doing nothing to help. Though many rappers have donated time and bottles of water, Connor went to the ground floor to help and even created a song to help raise awareness and funds for the cause called "Fresh Water for Flint."

Happy Birthday, Jon Connor!
